VMI Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:

  • Save the date for VMI’s Compete to Win campaign May 7–9! All gifts directly support athletic program operating budgets and are a great way to make an impact on your favorite VMI sports teams. Make an early gift today!
  • Graduation week kicks off with a glee club and band concert Monday, May 13 at 8 pm. in Memorial Hall. Find the full schedule of the Institute's hallmark events at www.vmi.edu/graduation  including awards ceremonies, parades, VMI's Baccalaureate service, commissioning, and commencement. 
  • The latest edition of the Institute Report is now available. Learn more about events and happenings on post, including Breakout, the 7th Annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion event, guest speakers, and a look back at selfless service as part of the celebration of 50 years of the IR.
  • The Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors will meet May 2 – 4, 2024, at various times for the full board and committee meetings. A public notice, schedule, and agenda are available on the BOV's upcoming meetings page.  Virginia Military Institute business will be discussed by the board members in attendance. The meeting is open to the public. Full board sessions will also be livestreamed on the BOV's YouTube channel and the upcoming meetings page.
  • Update to the May BOV Meeting: The Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors’ Nominating and Governance Committee will reconvene on Saturday, May 4, 2024 to continue the committee’s business from its Friday, May 3, 2024, meeting. A public notice is available on the BOV's upcoming meetings page.

The Cadet Collective: The Kleinschusters

Matthew Kleinschuster ’26 tagged along to college tours with his brother Jacob “Jake” Kleinschuster ’24, so he got an inside look at whatever places his brother was interested in. Virginia Military Institute wasn’t the immediate choice for Jake, but his senior year of high school he was decided.  

They kept it in the family. Their grandfather, also Jacob, Class of 1964, attended VMI. "Seeing him have his buddies over all the time, telling the Rat Line stories ... I've always wanted something like that with a group of guys I can live life with,” Jake said.

Combat Shooting Club Dominates at Competition

The combat shooting club team at Virginia Military Institute, coached by Paul Lahah, outperformed the competition at the 2024 ROTC College Clash Marksmanship Competition, April 19-21 at Fort Barfoot, Virginia.
